Tribal Education

A Study in Kalahandi District of Odisha

Abstract

Education is the most powerful and key to tribal development. The educational status of tribal population can be judged by the analysis of literacy rate. The literacy rate of tribal people in Kalahandi is always lower than that of in Odisha. The present paper tries to examine the educational status of tribal people in Kalahandi district of Odisha.  The analysis is based on exclusively secondary data. The finding of the study reveals that the percentage of literacy of tribal people was 5.80 in Kalahandi in 1961 which has considerably increased to 41.71 percent in 2011 indicating the improvement of the educational status of tribal people in Kalahandi district of Odisha.
