Abstract

Local history is an indispensable part in the writing of the ‘history from below’. Sacred groves (Kavus) have a significant role in the local history of Kerala. The sacred groves are integral part of tribal cultural landscape of Odisha. This paper will discuss the sacred groves/ kavus function as a ‘Desachinnagal’ (signpost of a region) and its unique contribution to the local history of Kerala and also its pristine glory preserved through generation among the tribes of Odisha which became integral part of their culture.
